After hearing last week that the Zune tattoo guy, Steve Smith, was really going through with legally changing his name to “Microsoft Zune,” I just had to catch up with him. But in my short e-mail correspondence with soon-to-be-legally-named Mr. Microsoft Zune, I learned something even more surprising. Microsoft Zune and Reebok have teamed up to provide limited edition Allen Iverson Zune sneakers. It’s only limited release (60 sets) and none of the stores that will carry them are within 500 miles from me. One of the stores is NYC, can you find a way for me to buy a pair?” Are any of our readers willing to help out? Check Zune Tattoo guy’s answers below to some questions about his new name change and his tattoos and maybe you will be even more inspired to help him put a pair of shoes on his feet. Any movement on the Apple tattoo on your behind? You still looking to do that? After my legal name change, which I hope to file at the end of the month, I am going to have massive tattoo work done. I haven’t officially announced it yet, but I will be running a contest on zunescene.com reaching out to any inspiring artists to design a zune-arts.net themed logo with J Allard as the centerpiece. I am also going to get “hello from Seattle”, “you make it you” and the Apple logo tattooed all at the same time. I have been pricing all this for a while and it will be around $700-$1000. You are finally going to change your name to Microsoft Zune. Is that a first name? What will your full name be? Microsoft (First name) Zune (Last name). Maybe Sync as a middle name. Are you worried that when your name gets called on the overhead, at lets say an airport, people will think their lost Zune has been found and is at the lost and found? Any concerns about your name being changes to a product that people recognize. Actually during my entire name change quest I plan to keep a video journal and post each part of it on YouTube and zunescene.com. The last part of the journal will be me doing normal, everyday activities with my new name. Perhaps, I will sign up for a cell phone plan and provide them with my new legal name and see the clerk’s reaction. Or reserve a table at a restaurant for one and see their puzzled looks. What do you think about Microsoft’s bid to acquire Yahoo. Do you think that could impact the Zune? What would you like to see happen? A Zune phone? I do not believe a Zune Phone would make a lot of sense. I would, however, like to see the Zune firmware be included in Windows Mobile 7. Why be tied down to one choice for your phone like the iPhone? Why not have the choice to be with any carrier and choose any phone that runs Windows Mobile?
