XWave Headset Lets Users Control Games with Their Minds
November 23rd, 2010 by Sarah Silbert, LAPTOP Staff Writer
PLXDevices has just launched a “brainwave-controlled” headset called the XWave—just in time for you to make the particularly adventurous gadget hound on your shopping list very happy. Once secured to the user’s head, the $99 device offers connectivity to the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch.
Using NeuroSky’s technology to measure brainwaves, the XWave promises to detect a user’s mental state and allows gamers to move objects with their minds. A number of XWave-friendly apps, including a free visualizer that measures attention and relaxation and the Tug of Mind game which lets players manipulate photographs with their minds, will be available through the iTunes store.
No word yet on how well this works, but having the XWave around at a family gathering would definitely make for some memorable holiday photos.
