Wilson Sleek and Battery Pack Boost Cell Signals On The Road
March 23rd, 2011 by Brian Oliver Bennett, LAPTOP Senior Writer Here at CTIA Wireless 2011, a product from Wilson Electronics caught our eye. The company’s Sleek signal booster combined with a new Portable Battery Pack mounts to car dashboards to maximise cell reception in far-flung areas while driving.
The $129.99 Sleek is essentially a universal sled that accepts cell phones in its cradle. Once inserted, a built-in signal booster makes contact with the back of phones to increase signal gain. Further upping signal reception is an external arial antenna that sits outside of the car.
The Sleek can either be powered by standard car adapter or via the $16.95 Portable Battery Pack unit. The 3 ounce battery, says Wilson will run the Sleek for about 2 hours of talk-time and 6 hours in stand-by mode. That sounds pretty handy, especially when traveling cross country or even just to have as a back up in emergencies.
