Which Tablet Makes the Best Gift? Expert Roundtable Video

Nov 21, 2012 05:11 PM EDT by David Eitelbach

Tablets are the hottest gift item this holiday season, but with lots of choices comes potential confusion. Do you pick the new iPad or iPad mini, an Android alternative or maybe the new Microsoft Surface? In a roundtable moderated by Manoush Zomorodi, six of your friends form LAPTOP show you which tablets will make the best gifts. Play the video right now to make sure you make the right call.

Being an Apple man, Staff Writer Daniel Berg chose the fourth-generation Apple iPad. With its beautiful Retina display, powerful processing and graphics performance, and unbeatable selection of apps, the newest iPad just might be the best tablet currently on the market.

One of the best Android tablets, the ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity, was chosen by Staff Writer Sherri Smith. This top-notch slate boasts a beautiful HD display, speedy quad-core performance and a long battery life. An optional clamshell keyboard dock, which features the same attractive brushed metal design as the tablet, is also available.

Editor-in-Chief Mark Spoonauer loves the small-but-fierce Apple iPad Mini, which packs a lush 7.9-inch display, plenty of processing power, high-quality cameras and long battery life into a very thin and light aluminum design. Find out why he thinks it’s worth the $130 premium over competing 7-inchers.

Amazon’s 7-inch Kindle Fire HD was Reviews Editor Mike Prospero’s choice. The Fire HD offers an affordable alternative to the iPad Mini, without losing its premium look and feel. Mike loved the Fire HD’s crisp and bright display, impressively loud speakers, large selection of movies and music, and huge storage space.

Konrad Krawczyk, a staff writer, brought the Barnes & Noble Nook HD. The Nook HD features a bright and sharp screen, top-of-the-class battery life, family-friendly features and content, and — unlike many other 7-inch tablets — the ability to expand its storage via microSD.

Staff Writer Dan Howley toted the Google Nexus 7. With its speedy quad-core performance, high-quality design, and powerful Android 4.1 Jelly Bean UI, the $199 the Nexus 7 gives the iPad Mini and Kindle Fire HD a run for their money.

Whether you or your loved one is looking for a family-friendly bargain, a slate to watch movies on or a device for getting work done, our editors here at LAPTOP can help you find the perfect tablet this holiday season.
