Which Lasts Longer, Infatuation or Samsung Laptops?

Samsung-XSeries-PromoEver since we saw the strange Samsung N140 promo video we pointed to yesterday, we’ve been just as amused and puzzled as you. We also wondered if maybe the video would be part of a series, like the Taster’s Choice commercials of old. When Maria gets to Paris, what will happen? Will she realize that her Hunny is a jerk? Will she meet someone new? Someone who perhaps also loves Samsung laptops?

Turns out the answer is yes.

The saga of Maria and her ill-fated trip to Paris is actually part of a larger campaign, not just for the N series netbooks, but the X series laptops as well. It’s all chronicled on Samsung’s UK site in the story of N Meets X — 9 Hours: Barcelona to Paris.

The whole story actually starts in Paris where we see a broken-hearted Maria sitting on the curb crying. She is so distraught that she walks right out into traffic where a handsome stranger in a sporty convertible hits her… or so it appears. From there, we can go back and see the day leading up to this moment, then see the 9 hours after. Why 9 hours? That’s how long the X420 lasts, of course!

The story of their trip back to Barcelona actually has plot and dialogue and makes a lot more sense. And it’s also a bit more blatant with the point: the guy in the car pointedly looks at his watch at the beginning of their trip (12PM), pointedly gives Maria his laptop and says she should watch a movie on it since the trip will be long. They fall in love while bonding over this sleek, long-lasting laptop. They take pictures with the webcam, she rifles through his My Pictures folder, and when she walks off in the end, she leaves him a note atop the evidence of their adventure that says, “I will never forget the 9 hours we spent together.” He checks his watch: 9PM.

And just in case you were unaware: this laptop lasts 9 hours.

Though Maria walks off by herself in the end, there’s a hopeful note to this tale. You get the feeling they will see each other again. And they will probably sit in the park, side by side, typing IMs to each other on their matching laptops– which last at least 9 hours.

You can watch both videos and see the other promo material for the N and X Series at Samsung’s UK site. The Flash used there is a bit of a memory hog, though. I found a video from IFA that shows the road trip portion of the story just in case you can’t get the site to work for you:

Now that we know the whole story and have bonded with Maria and her dark-haired stranger, are you more likely to buy a Samsung laptop? We know that it’s great for watching movies, looking at pictures, has a decent webcam and… well you know the rest. This immersive promotional strategy has worked well in the past, but is it engaging enough for laptops? I’m eager to hear your opinion.
