What Would You Pay for an Anti-Glare Display?
August 11th, 2009 by Mark Spoonauer, LAPTOP Editor in Chief
Glare be gone! Apple has responded to customers who have been highly critical of the glossy screen on the 15-inch MacBook Pro by adding an antiglare option for $50. This will be welcome news for creative professionals who would rather not deal with annoying reflections. Previously, Apple had offered the anti-glare option only its 17-inch MacBook Pro. I say it’s about time, but I’m curious if you think $50 is too steep. There are some other tradeoffs. You don’t get the same richness in color and deep blacks that a glossy screen provides, and a silver bezel replaces the elegant edge-to-edge glass look. Personally, though, I’m not a fan of glossy screens, and I’d be willing to pay a bit extra for antiglare. And that’s because I do most of my mobile computing during my commute on a moving bus. As you probably already know, reflections can get really bad when natural light is involved, whether it’s on the ground or on a cross-country flight. So how much would you pay to go glare free? Sound off in the poll.
