Remember your first cell phone? How about your first laptop?
LAPTOP recently delved into the annals of gadget history to find the game-changing devices that started it all and the stories behind them. For instance, the first cell phone was developed in the early 1970s, but wasn’t officially released until 1983, when the FCC decided what to do with it. Remember the Rio MP3 player? It beat Apple to the punch with its 1999 debut, so why did it fade into the background while the iPod went on to dominate the MP3 market?

My first cellphone was a late 90s Ericsson. I can’t remember the model number but it was a heavy black one with the flip out piece by the mouth and an extendable antenna.
My first laptop was a HP Omnibook 300 — it was awesome and I still have it.
I also got a small Compaq handheld that ran Windows CE, had apps on ROM and was more like a PDA.
My first MP3 player was a Creative Arts NomadII MG — very sleek for its day.

Gadget – now that’s a loose term. Considering I am currently carrying a Blackberry Storm, iPhone 3G and an iTouch! (yes I know, why?) – I think my first real gadget was a motorized Lego Technik kit. If it has to be portable, then some Casio digital watch that had a space invaders style game embedded (the buttons didn’t last a month!). not ot mention the slew of Sony Walkman products that I went through before catching the Apple bug!
