What to Ask Asus CEO Jerry Shen About the Eee PC? You Tell Me.
Here at LAPTOP, we look at the Eee PC as a child might look at the world around them. That is, our questions about it are infinite. Tonight, I am going to have the chance to chat on the phone with Asus Chairman and Chief Executive Jerry Shen about the past, present, and future of the Eee PC.
Mr. Shen, who lives in Taiwan, has graciously agreed to talk me tonight at 8:30 (EST). I have been thinking incessantly about what I will ask the father of the Eee PC. These are a handful of questions I have so far:
Are you guys taking steps to make sure you stay on top of the low-cost laptop market? The 8.9-inch system was just shown at CeBIT. When will that system come to market? We have heard the plans for a Windows-based Eee PC. What type of version of Windows do you expect to port to the system? When might we see this come to market? One common criticism of the Eee PC is that the 800 x 480-pixel resolution is too low to display many Web pages. Can we expect to see higher resolutions and larger screens in the next generation of Eee PCs? Will you be sticking with the Xandros operating system for future Eee PCs that aren’t running Windows?
I’d like to hear what the Eee PC fans out there would like me to ask. I promise to transcribe the interview as soon as I hang up with Mr. Shen tonight. So check back to see if I selected one of your questions.

As far as I can tell, we already have answers to many of these questions.
The 8.9-inch model will be available in April, it has a 1024 x 600 pixel screen, and will be available with Windows XP. Engadget also reports that future versions may sport Windows 7, but Windows Vista has been pretty much ruled out.
I’ve seen conflicting reports about whether Linux will still be an option, so I’d love to see an answer to that question.
I’d also like to know what kind of processor the Eee PC 900 will have, and what the price for the base unit will be stateside. Something tells me the 399 Euro price is only for Europe.

I’m more interested in when if ever ASUS will use intels atom – “diamondville” processor or if they willl consider using via’s new “isaiah” processor in the upcoming release or in the near future.
Also I would like to know if there is any chance of Asus providing the SSD and HDD versions of the upcoming EEE PCs in the next or future releases.
I think these are important Q’s for many potential EEE PC users.
Thanks!

Please thank him for opening up a wholly new market segment; I will be buying a couple of the new 8.9 inch EEEs as soon as they come out. What are his plans for a touch screen model?

I’d like to know about linux as an option on the eee pc 900 as well. I’d rather save a small amount of money and have linux. Theirweb site says the new models will all be “Windows Ready”. Does this mean I can buy without Windows?
Thanks.
