What Do You Want to Know About the Future of the MSI Wind?
December 8th, 2008 by Joanna Stern
We have been hearing about new versions of the MSI Wind for a few months. Tomorrow afternoon I’ll be chatting on the phone with the product manager of the MSI Wind Andy Tung about the the company’s plans for the Wind. Chatting with Andy always proves to be really interesting and you can see a few of my planned questions below.
But what do you want to know? Please post your questions in the comments below. I will try and ask MSI as many as I can. Check back tomorrow night to see if I selected any of your questions and what answer MSI holds.
- MSI ranked #4 on DisplaySearch’s list of top netbook manufacturers. What is MSI’s plan to become # 1?
- The Wind has popped up in places for as low as $299. How low do you think we will see the Wind go in price?
- How have return rates been? Have they lowered since we spoke last, especially in the Linux category?
- Are you working on developing a new Linux OS for the Wind?
- What types of netbook products can we expect in the coming months? When will they be avilable?
- The Wind U150 is rumored to have both an SSD and hard drive. What benefits may we see in terms of performance?

Will MSI produce a larger netbook/notebook? Possibly with a 12 and/or 13 inch screen size?

The battery factory issue should have been resolved a few months ago. However, we are still seeing a shortage of OEM 6-cell batteries. Why is this the case? Furthermore, why do MSI downgrade the 5200 MAh battery to 4400 MAh? I and many others feel discontent with this decision, regardless the (potentially business) reason. I hope MSI don’t start to only attract new customers and leave the old ones behind.
Thanks for giving the opportunity, Joanna.

MSI has produced a 12.1″ model called the VR-220US, but it is barely out in the US (a few units on Amazon are now gone), and I haven’t read a review of it. Hopefully, Laptop Mag can remedy this and post a review of this new model, competitively priced at $699, thanks.

1. When will the U110 model come out in the States?
2. Are there any plans to offer the Wind in additional colors?

Any possibility of adding Wimax capability to the Wind U120 beside 3.5G chipset in it and also the dual core Atom? Malaysia have roll out the Wimax Broadband and would be great it there is a tie-up with the Service Provider call Packet 1.
