We Dig Digsby. We Have Tips and Invites!

We just posted our full review of a new software called Digsby.

Rarely do we come across a piece of software in the LAPTOP offices that has us yelling: “This is exactly what I was looking for!” Unlike that U2 song, we have found what we are looking for… in an instant messaging client. Before we go into some tips and tricks for the software program, we want to let you know that Digsby is currently in a closed beta.

Don’t reach for the tissue box though, because we have 3,000 invites and, yes, you can have one!

Simply go to www.digsby.com and download the program. When you begin installation you’ll be prompted for an invite code. Simply type in laptopmag.

My colleagues and I have been using Digsby for a few weeks now. We have come up with three pretty cool tips below. Let us know in the comments section if you’ve got any to add.

1. Don’t like the tabbed chat windows? You can select a tab from the grouped messages window and drag it to another place on the screen, which will detach that one window from the rest.

2. Pad Your Buddy List. Do you like your contacts on your buddy list to be squished together or spaced out? Digsby lets you decide. Go to the Preferences menu and select Buddy List tab. Click the advanced button and use the buddy padding scale to make your contacts appear closer together or father apart.

3. Switch between tabs. If you decide you want to use the tabbed-chat style you can use Ctrl+Tab on your keyboard to move between chats without having to reach for your mouse.
