Watch Out, JooJoo: The X2 iTablet is Here, Will Ship in April

February 5th, 2010 by Dana Wollman

When Apple announced its tablet as the iPad, a world full of women groaned, while UK company X2 must have heaved a sigh of relief: the name iTablet was still up for grabs! A week and change after the iPad took over the Internet, X2 debuted the iTablet, a slate that looks like the iPad and has the name that, perhaps, it should have had.

The iTablet, which even X2 writes comes “hot on the heels of Apple’s latest product launch,” will be offered with 10.1- and 12.1 inch screens (both 1024 x 1068), optional multitouch (take that, Apple!), an onscreen keyboard, and the ability to view content in landscape and portrait mode (it’s unclear if it has an accelerometer or a button to switch the viewing mode, as older tablets do).

Other specs include 1.6-GHz Intel processors, 2GB of RAM, Windows 7, and a few things the iPad doesn’t offer: “up to” three USB ports, hard drives as large as 250GB, optional HDMI output, a 1.3-MP webcam, and support for Flash. The tablet also has 802.11g Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and optional 3G.

The iTablet will be available in a host of colors, including white, gray, pink, blue, red, yellow, and black. No word yet on pricing, although we know it will ship in April. Hopefully, the JooJoo, which is slated to ship by late February, won’t have swallowed up too much market share by then.

Uh, these iTablets have been around since at least 2005 from an asian manufacturure, sold in US by http://www.tabletkiosk.com. Nice systems (even though they ran Windows XP). The same family of computers is similar to http://www.tabletkiosk.com/tkstore/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=17&idproduct=271
