ViewSonic VNB131 ViewBook Pro Reviewed: Neat Alarm, But a Little Pricey

Mar 4, 2010 02:34 PM EDT by Michael A. Prospero, LAPTOP Reviews Editor

ViewSonic, maker of fine displays and projectors, is branching out into the notebook market with the VNB131 ViewBook Pro, a 13-inch ultraportable that uses an Intel ultra-low voltage processor. As we note in our full review, this $949 system is pretty good for ViewSonic’s first time out. It’s got a stylish design, decent performance, and fairly good endurance, too.

This business notebook even has one novel feature that will appeal to road warriors afraid of having their laptop stolen: A button above the keyboard activates a security app  that sets off an alarm should the laptop be moved at all. The only way to turn off the alarm–which makes it sound like the Klingons are attacking– is to enter your password.

All in all, it’s not a bad system, but for $949, it’s a bit more expensive than competing systems. To read our full review, click here, and to see the alarm  in action, as well as a video review, hit the jump.
