CES 2010
Video: Seats-On Inside an LTE-Enabled Concept Car
January 9th, 2010 by Meghan J. McDonough, LAPTOP Web Producer/Writer
Yesterday, I showed you some concept gadgets that take advantage of Verizon’s forthcoming 4G network, LTE. As it turns out, the possibilities for 4G don’t end with handheld gadgets. While I was here at CES, I got to cool my heels inside a concept car, reworked from an existing Toyota model by back-end wireless services provider Alcatel-Lucent.
The car has four touchscreens inside from which users can access a host of apps via an LTE connection– even while the car is moving. These apps include everything from YouTube clips for the kids in the backseat to location-based restaurant recommendations. While the word “apps” is quickly growing tired, this is one platform where they’re useful. And it’s funny that those apps are the glue that connect smart phones and cars, a category we rarely cover.
After the jump, check out the walk-through video so you can see for yourself what the interface looks like, and how LTE can make cars even more mobile.
