Video: Motorola Teases CES 2011 Tablet, Calls iPad a “Giant iPhone”

I’ll give Motorola this. They have a sense of humor–and balls. In a just released “Tablet Evolution” video, the company whizzes through what looks like a museum hall of ancient tablets, starting with the Egyptan Hieroglyphic Tablet. Motorola’s caption reads “Good graphics, but weight makes for difficult portability.” Then Motorola takes a swipe at the iPad.

Here’s how Moto labels Apple’s self-described magical device:  ”It’s like a giant iPhone, but…it’s like a giant iPhone.” Moto even disses the Android-powered Samsung Galaxy Tab, describing it thusly: “Android OS, but Android OS…for a phone.” You might think that Motorola would then give us more a glimpse at its upcoming slate but instead just ends the clip with its tablet behind a cloth and a bee buzzing around the Moto logo–obviously a reference to the upcoming Honeycomb OS.

Given that Andy Rubin already demonstrated Motorola’s tablet on stage at the Dive Into Mobile event, I was hoping for a little bit more in this video, and I’m pretty sure iPad owners would disagree with Motorola’s knock that the iPad is just an overgrown iPhone. The tablet flame wars have begun.
