The Ubuntu Linux distribution used is actually pronounced “oo-BOON-too”, not “oo-BUN-too”. The correct pronunciation is in the Ubuntu F.A.Q. at: http://www.ubuntu.com/aboutus/faq

From the Ubuntu site, just FYI:
“How do you pronounce Ubuntu?
Ubuntu, an African word from Zulu and Xhosa, is pronounced “oo-BOON-too”. “

Joanna, two questions for you:
1. Does the Mini 9 has an onboard mic? I know it has a mic port, but I am interested in an onboard one, and the specs for the product doesn’t mention it…
2. Is the Ubuntu version installed, has a way to install other Linux apps? You see, on the notebookreview.com review, the reviewer mentions that you can only install new apps via the Terminal, but in the “normal” ubuntu versions, there are numerous graphical utils to do so. So what’s the deal with this version of ubuntu?
Thx.

@Eugenia: I’m assuming that if you go to the menu (not the compositing launcher, the actual menu) it has Add/Remove there. Add/Remove (formally known as gnome-app-install) is the easiest frontend for APT (Advanced Package Tool) I’ve ever used.
Chances are you can just drag Add/Remove into the compositing launcher.

I don’t think it matters how you pronounce a word like Ubuntu. There are different pronounciations for various words thanks to accents/dialects/etc., so big deal if Ubuntu is being read differently than what some guy who wrote a FAQ says.

strange: while on the US site, you only get ubuntu, on the UK site, you only get XP. once again, it shows that their commitment to open-source is quite strange. or can anybody expain this? anyway, i’ll buy the eee 901 instead, where i can get linux.

On the US Dell website you can get either GNU/Linux or Microsoft Windows XP. Giving GNU a share of the credit is important; it is a nice way to get people entering our community to learn about software freedom (see http://www.gnu.org/fry/ for a great introduction to software freedom by Stephen Fry).

FYI Eugenia the onboard mic is at the front of the notebook near the touchpad/mouse buttons
I did some googling to answer the very same question!
When Ubuntu is released,
mine is shipped w/ 1.3M cam, bluetooth, 16GB SSD, and upgraded to 2GB RAM!
hmmmm for a traveler GPS would be nice
