It’s been downloaded over 1.5 million times from the App Store, and it’s coming to Android. Within a few days of being handed a 7-inch Compal NAZ-10 tablet, sporting Nvidia’s powerful Tegra 2 chip, the guys over at NaturalMotion ported its gorgeous football arcade game to the device. Actually, they did more than that. The tablet version boasts new bits of eye candy, including picture in picture (check out the jumbo tron in the video), an animated crowed, and lit billboards. I was able to grab this quick video while at CTIA–ironically, with an iPhone 3GS–and was wowed by what I saw. And as you’ll see, so were other onlookers.
The game is as simple as ever. It’s just you and the ball running down the field, doing everything possible to avoid getting crushed by oncoming defenders. There accelerometer controls weren’t active, but everything else was smooth and responsive when I was allowed to take a turn. I especially liked the slow-mo tackling animations. (I was tackled a lot more than the demonstrator.) If this is a sign of things to come, there’s no reason Android tablets won’t be able to compete with the iPad.
