Verizon to Sell Motorola Phone on 4G LTE Network
December 22nd, 2010 by Sarah Silbert, LAPTOP Staff Writer
In an interview on Tuesday, Verizon Wireless’ chief operating officer John Stratton announced that “LTE smart phones are on the horizon” and that “Motorola will be right there.” Putting two and two together, it looks like we can expect a Motorola smart phone as the first device on Verizon’s new 4G LTE network.
Stratton did not offer any information about the phone’s specs or pricing—or when it will be released—but President of Verizon Communications Lowell McAdam has said there will be several LTE-compatible smart phones and tablets at CES in January. And though specifics are scarce, Engadget speculates that the Motorola phone is the Tegra 2-powered Olympus.
In any case, Verizon’s announcement signals a strong partnership with Motorola, which already sells a number of popular smart phones (such as the Droid Pro) through the carrier.
