Verizon Subsidized Netbooks on the Way?
April 17th, 2009 by Joanna Stern
Looks like those Verizon Wireless subsidized netbooks will be on the way soon and the HP Mini 1000 ($349.00) will be the first to be offered.
According to Phone Arena’s tipsters the Nation’s largest wireless carrier will be underwriting the cost of the mini-notebook for a wireless contract. The leaked slides do not reveal what the wireless package would consist of.
The HP Mini 1000 offered by the carrier will have a 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor, 1 GB of RAM and 80GB hard drive. There are no other details surrounding Verizon’s plans to offer subsided netbooks but we expect to hear something official sometime soon.
Verizon would join AT&T (along with Radioshack), which has been the only carrier to provide a subsided notebook so far.
