Verizon: Bing Not Taking Over All Our Phones, Fascinate Will Get Google Search Download with Froyo
So it turns out that “Exclusive” about Verizon dropping Google from all future Android phones in favor of Bing was just a bunch of BS. The carrier told us this evening in no uncertain terms that Bing will in fact “not be the search engine on all of our phones in the future.” So there you go.
Verizon also wanted to emphasize that once the Fascinate gets updated to Android 2.2 (or Froyo)–sorry, no date yet–that Google Search will be available in the Android Market. That’s nice, but it won’t change the fact that Bing will continue to be the only choice in the browser and that the search button on the phone itself will only integrate with Bing. The point we were trying to make in our review isn’t that Bing is bad (the results are actually clean and easy to follow), but that the user doesn’t have a choice. You will soon, but it won’t be the kind we were hoping for.
