Vatican Bans Roman Catholic Confession App for iOS
February 9th, 2011 by Sarah Silbert, LAPTOP Staff Writer
Confession: A Roman Catholic App, an iPhone app designed to make confession easier, has a powerful enemy to contend with: The Vatican. Today, the Vatican spokesman told journalists that “under no circumstance is it possible to ‘confess by iPhone.’ “
Though the app didn’t receive His Holiness’ approval, it does have a fan in Bishop Kevin Rhodes of the diocese in Fort Wayne, Ind., who gave the app his imprimatur. Confession was developed in collaboration with the director of the Secretariat for Doctrine and Pastoral Practices of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.
The app offers a step-by-step guide to confession, along with a personalized examination of conscience for each user. Hopefully the password-protected profiles will keep your deepest and darkest secrets safe.
Developed by Little iApps, Confession costs $1.99 and is available for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod.
