How to Use Multi Window View on the Samsung Galaxy S4

One of the coolest features of the Samsung Galaxy S4 is its ability to run two apps on the screen simultaneously, allowing you to multitask on your smartphone like you do on a desktop operating system like Windows or OS X. Just imagine reading your email on the right side of the screen while you surf the Web on the left, and you have Samsung’s Multi Window mode.

Samsung includes about a dozen Multi Window compatible apps, including email, Gmail, YouTube and the browser, and you can add social networking apps Facebook and Twitter if you have them installed. Here’s how to enable and use Multi Window mode on the Samsung Galaxy S4.

  1. Select the My Device tab in the settings menu.

  2. Select the display tab and check the box next to Multi Window.

How to add apps to Multi Window view:

  1. Swipe open the Multi Window drawer on the left side of the screen and select Edit at the bottom of the screen.

  2. To remove an app, long-press its icon and drag it out of the Multi Window drawer.

  3. To add an app, long-press its icon in the app tray and drag it to the Multi Window drawer.

  4. Tap Done and all of the apps you selected will now be available in the drawer.

To use Multi Window view:

  1. Slide open the Multi Window drawer and long-press and drag the first app you want to open to the home screen.

  2. Long-press the second app you want to open and drag it to the home screen. Both apps should now be running on the home screen at the same time.

  1. Chuck Wow Says:

After I hit edit I don’t see the text to say Drag items into or out of the tray. How are you supposed to do that anyways when the screen is a full screen?

  2. camille Says:

How do I add other apps, like Instagram

  3. Steve Zieno Says:

Can I add the camera to the multi window drawer?

  4. Pichu Says:

I want to have firefox and the camera there :P is that possible? if so how?

  5. Stefan Says:

The Multi Windows function is a great idea, but only a few apps are enabled for it, and you can’t add any more. Incredibly, the on-board calendar isn’t enabled. If I want to call someone to make an appointment and consult my pre-installed calendar simultaneously, I can’t. Instead, I have to call the person on another phone while I look at my S4 calendar. How could they miss such an obvious problem?

  6. amber Says:

You can view your calendar b while on a call by simply putting the call on speaker and hitting the home button to access the calendar and other apps like text messages and a Internet browser. It would be nice to add apps to the multi Window tray. What the heck.

  7. Alisha Says:

It’s bizarre, but I only have ‘wallpaper’ and ‘notification panel’ , and then only screen options after that. It’s not in notifications either, I’ve checked.
I have a brand new Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini, and I was just gonna test this…
What on Earth is that supposed to be?! Please help as soon as possible!
