Twitter Traffic Explodes, Moldovans Contribute to the Rise

Can’t go a moment without hearing about Twitter or someone tweeting? According to ComScore, Twitter traffic has “exploded” in the last month. Its recent report states, “Worldwide visitors to Twitter approached 10 million in February, up an impressive 700+% vs. a year ago. The past two months alone have seen worldwide visitors climb more than 5 million visitors.” The new surge in traffic also isn’t being driven by the usual early-adopter suspects, the report says. “The skew towards older visitors, although perhaps initially surprising for a social media site, actually makes more sense than you might think at first.” Speaking of unexpected Twitter users, at least 10,000 Moldovan citizens planned a protest against their government last night using the 140-character site after the Communist party won over 50 percent of the Parliament seats in the tiny Eastern European nation. Using the #pman tag on Twitter, they were able to gather enough strength to cause a riot and even charge the president’s office and Parliament, reported the New York Times.
