This Week in Reviews [March 11 - 15]

Mar 16, 2013 02:00 PM EDT by Molly Klinefelter, LAPTOP Assistant Editor

It’s been quite the week;  a long list of reviews have come through the pipeline. We got to check out an attraction-finder app from Google, a rugged smartphone and a mobile hotspot that works internationally without roaming costs. Plus, we reviewed a pair of sub-$100 headphones, HTC’s new smartphone and a lesser-known e-reader. Here’s a roundup of what we got our hands on this week. Exceptional standouts include a decent sub-$500 laptop and a mobile hotspot with quick LTE speeds that connects up to 10 devices at once.

Mio Alpha

As an alternative to uncomfortable chest straps that monitor heart rate, Mio's Alpha is a watch that performs the same function. At $199, this watch is attractive and comfortable, accurately tracks your heart rate and is easy to pair with third-party apps such as Endomondo, Wahoo, MapMyRun, MapMyRide, Runkeeper, Strava and Adidas' MiCoach. However, it wasn't very rich in features.
