No surprise here. Apple announced today that it has updated its MacBook and MacBook Pro notebook lines. Here are some of the updates to both of the machines:

  • Latest Intel Core 2 Duo processors, known as Penryn
  • Larger Hard Drives (up to 300GB on some models)
  • 2GB RAM standard in most models

The MacBook Pro has specifically been updated with:

  • Apple’s Multi-Touch pad - support for pinch, rotate and swipe on the touch pad
  • The latest NVIDIA graphics processors
  • The 17-inch model now has an optional 1920×1200 resolution.

The MacBook has been updated with:

  • Larger hard drives (120 GB, 160 GB, 250GB) and more memory

We won’t go through the specs of the five (two MacBook Pro, three MacBook) new models. You can get that all here.

Things that are missing from the new models:

  • Blu-Ray
  • Built-in mobile broadband
  • Solid State Hard Drives

Would like to see a blu ray option and broadband support.

I have been wanting some sort of finish that will protect against scratches - especially against watches or jewelry. I have seen these expensive machines with such marks. Besides bare metal leaves me cold. Also a slight variation in shape to allow easy pick up in a rush. The laptops are so flat to the surface they could use a slghtly raised edge. Other than this the laptops are as good as one could ever want. Am I really disappointed - no!
