While it lacks a camera, the Nook HD from Barnes & Noble offers the best battery life among 7-inch tablets, a wonderfully bright and sharp screen, family-friendly features and content, and -- a rarity among many tablets in 2012 -- extra storage via a microSD card. If you're primarily interested in a family reading experience, the Nook HD is one of the best tablets of 2012.
