The 10 Best Tablets of 2012

While traditional laptop sales continued to struggle in 2012, the tablet gold rush continued with new players like Google and Microsoft trying to get a piece of the action. This is the year where we saw tremendous leaps forward in tablet hardware and software.  

Sharper screens were a huge trend as we saw a number of tablets with higher-than-HD resolutions, including the new iPad and its Retina display. Quad-core tablets went mainstream and got a lot cheaper this year and, by the end of the year, you could get one for under $200. On the software side, we saw major operating system updates for Android and iOS while Microsoft changed its entire paradigm by putting a touch-based UI front and center in Windows 8.  With so much innovation happening this year, it can be difficult to separate the wheat from the chaffe. Fortunately, we’ve taken the time to identify the top 10 tablets of 2012.
