Symwave and Seagate to Demo USB 3.0 at CES
January 5th, 2009 by K. T. Bradford
Symwave and Seagate are set to demonstrate just how fast a USB 3.0 hard drive will function at CES this year. Seagate’s FreeAgent external drives will be used for the demo which LAPTOP will attend later this week. However, our PR contact tells us that the drives we see at the demo are not shipping USB 3.0 products but units that have been specially-modified just for testing. Still, it will be exciting to finally see what USB 3.0 is capable of.
Symwave, who announced the world’s first USB 3.0 physical layer device (PHY), will show off real world applications of SuperSpeed external drives, including data backup and media streaming. We’ll let you know how the demo turns out!
