Sugar Labs’ New Version of Sugar Learning Platform Is Netbook and PC Ready
March 16th, 2009 by Joanna Stern
You don’t have to have an One Laptop Per Child XO laptop to easily run the child friendly, Linux Sugar operating system anymore. Sugar Labs, which was started by OLPC’s former president of Software and Content Walter Bender, announced today the availability of version 0.84 of its Sugar Learning Platform. It is available for theĀ OLPC XO-1, classroom PCs, and netbook computers.
This improved release now features new collaborative Sugar Activities and the ability to easily suspend and resume Activities. Also new is the Infoslicer Activity which enables teachers to quickly and easily select web-based content to edit, package, and distribute as teaching materials.
You can download the new version now at http://wiki.sugarlabs.org/go/Downloads. SugarLabs is also planning to release its Sugar on a Stick v1.0 by Q3 2009, which will allow users to run Sugar off of a USB memory stick on any Windows or Mac computer.
