Stay Tuned: Putting American Airlines’ In Flight WiFi To the Test

August 21st, 2008 by Joanna Stern

I’m on my way back from IDF in San Fransisco and happen to be flying American Airlines Flight 20 from SFO to New York’s JFK. Yesterday the airline announced that my very flight would be one of the first to have its new in-flight WiFi service – Aircell’s GoGo. What does this mean? Well lucky me, I get to work (I mean blog) from the sky! Stay tunned for my live blog posts from 10,000 feet. Crunchgear has some first impressions of the service, but what would you like to be see put to the test in the sky?

  1. Glenn Says:

Try to watch a hulu standard-def TV show.

Try to watch a video on YouTube.

Run the speed tests on http://www.broadbandreports.com and post them, including the latency.

Bring up the nytimes.com front page and report on how long it took to render.

Launch iTunes and try to buy a single track. See how long it takes to launch the store, do a search for the track, download the track, etc. Maybe download a podcast too…
