Some More Palm Pre Details Trickle Out, Number of Simultaneous Apps Will Be Limited

March 12th, 2009 by Mark Spoonauer, LAPTOP Editor in Chief

palmpreWe just attended a webinar on the Palm Pre conducted by Sprint, and although there wasn’t much in the way of news, we did find out some interesting tidbits during the session.

  • First and most important, you will be limited in terms of the number of apps or cards open at any given time, although Palm has not decided on a specific number. It seems as though it will depend on the type of application you have open, and how much memory it takes up.
  • Palm will have an over-the-air app store towards the end of the year, but it’s not giving any more details right now.
  • Palm is not thinking about licensing WebOS at this time.
  • Palm did not say anything more about Flash support, but the company reiterated that it will be coming to WebOS by the end of 2009. Interpret that how you wish.
  • Sprint’s  service plans were also detailed. Individuals will be able to get the Pre on Sprint’s Everything Data or Simply Everything plans, $69.99 per month for 450 minutes, $89.99 per month for 900 minutes or $99.99 per month for unlimited talk, all with unlimited data. Business customers will be able to pool minutes with an unlimited data plan.

I’ve had my Pre given that shortly following release and am glad to get (via this forum) that I can now set a ring tone on incoming text messages and can search via e-mails and such. Now is there any hope for an upcoming release by which I can seek my calendar? Would make my employment very much simpler, acquiring dates of last appointments. No other complaints, except that yesterday I used to be in and out of Sprint provider (not unusual). I consider I was roaming, and looked at my calendar. Every thing in the calendar was just one hour earlier than what I had input. The clock was 1 hour early as properly. I was scared to death–then, once we got back into Sprint service again, everything was normalized. Has this happened to anybody else?? Seeking forward to answers, but please recall, I’m no techie and speak English instead of technospeak.
