Smartphone Madness 2012 Game 9: Huawei Ascend D Quad vs. Nokia Lumia 900. Voting Ends 3/23 at 9 a.m. EST

Smartphone Madness Game 9Welcome to the second round of Smartphone Madness 2012! Today, the Huawei Ascend D Quad faces off against the Nokia Lumia 900. Who will move on to the final four? That’s up to you! Click through to vote for your favorite.

Like Norfolk State, the Huawei Ascend D Quad came out of nowhere to take down the highly seeded Apple iPhone 4S in the first round. First seen at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, this device has a quad-core, 64-bit CPU (the K3V2) and also packs 16 GPU cores, giving it that extra oomph needed to handle today’s demanding 3D games.

The Android 4.0 ice Cream Sandwich-powered Ascend D Quad features a huge 4.5-inch 1280 x 720-pixel display, Dolby Digital + 5.1 surround sound, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of onboard storage. But can this Cinderella keep the magic up for another round?

In the first round, the Nokia Lumia 900 defeated the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx. For those who don’t recall, the Lumia 900, Nokia’s new flagship Windows Phone, is expected to arrive on AT&T’s 4G LTE network. We like it so much we named it the best smartphone of CES 2012. It has a large 4.3-inch scree, and around back of this solid unibody design (available in cyan and black) is an 8-MP camera with Carl Zeiss optics, which fired shots quickly. Its secret weapon might just be the bundled free Nokia Drive GPS app.

Which of these phones do you think is the best? Vote below.

In the end it will be Lumia 900 VS Titan II. Windows Phone community and OS are the strongest! :)

  2. i told u Says:

lol all these boring, corny, uninnovated android phones made by everyone from sony to kellogs is oversaturating the industry like crazy. I can wait until the day Google burys this nonsense with the rest of their dozen of failed dumb ideas smh. Of course the Nokia lumia, theres no android device on the market that can compete against it. Infact the Nokia lumia 900’s only competition is the HTC Titan II which is of course Windows too lol.

  3. Will Says:

That’s funny I live in Norfolk, but like Norfolk State The the Huawei Ascend D Quad will be crushed in the second round.

  4. Joe Says:

lol the only people who actually seem interested in this poll are windows fanbois…………

What do they reckon this laptopmag poll will do for nokia sales lol ???????

98.7% of smartphone owners simply are not interested in Windows Mobile, I used to own it and it sucked big time.

The world has moved on folks.

  5. ronnywhite Says:

whats funny is all those 16 gpu cores and quad core cpu doesnt even make android as smooth as 1st gen 1Ghz snapdragon windows phones.

  6. Muhammad Sazali Shamsudin Says:

    Nokia Lumia for for the win…. <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 I am the biggest fan of Nokia and I know it well :D

  7. Nurul Says:

Whattt? I don tink tt Huawei can defeat iPhone4S… Its just damn fake! I believe tt theres some prob here tt hvnt really solve yet, LOL! But for Nokia, I can definitely assume tt it can stands very very very well & of course fantastic! ^^

  8. bani Says:

Joe…man rly if ur going to make stupid coments altleast get ur facts strait. Windows mobile? Its called windows phone and if u rly had one you would know that. Windows mobile is compleatly different OS.

  9. Migz Says:

I agree with Joe from above. 98.7% of smartphone owners are not interested in Windows Mobile. Maybe that’s why Windows Mobile is dead and not represented in this pole. On the other hand Windows Phone 7 is a beautiful operating system that is fast, fluid, and doesn’t crash like Android. Have a nice day!!!

  10. VHMP01 Says:

@Joe… Windows Mobile ceased to exist, people have moved on The thing is, a grid of icons, icons for more icons, and a copied notification area are obsolete, it sucks big time. Having most relevant personal information at a glance is coming along with tiles. The world is moving on!

  11. hey Joe Says:

Windows Phone (v7+, 8) is NOT Windows Mobile (v6+). It’s an entirely re-written system; seamless lag-free experience compared to unreliable (even with dual core) Android phones that I’ve used.

  12. Johan Says:

@Joe: You probably owned a Windows Mobile-phone and have no clue of what Windows Phone is… My friends who has chosen a WP haven’t been happier with a smartphone than they are now.

  13. Derek Says:

hey Joe, you are correct that 98% of smartphone owners are not interested in Windows Mobile…since it hasn’t been updated in about two years. We have moved onto Windows Phones ;) take care.

  14. Brian Says:

    @ Joe

Windows Phone is nothing like Windows Mobile. You obviously haven’t used it, and like most iOS / Android / whatever sheep you simply dismiss it due to memories of WM, or the inability to get past the “windows” word. Look at the satisfaction ratings for windows phones on every carrier, and on amazon. There’s a reason people love it.

  15. MG Says:

@JOE, I would have to agreed with you, the world are simply not interested with Windows Mobile anymore. I believe that the consumers have undergone an iteration of interest from Apple to Android and now, Windows Phone. Just who in the right mind would care for an obsolete OS like Windows Mobile when there is a much more appealing, fluid, fast and stable OS that is Windows Phone?

  16. Joe (the Joe who can tell WP from WM) Says:

@Joe – The world truly has moved on from Windows Mobile. The Nokia’s and HTC of today run Windows Phone, which is a completely different OS. Anyhow, I think the final will be Nokia Lumia 900 vs. Nokia Lumia 710. Now watch the 710 win!

  17. Leo Says:

Sorry but latest poll, Windows Phone is more interesting platform than iOS or Android. Here is one research: that poll is pdf what will found in that column.

I hope that final two is Lumia 710 and Lumia 900. And we make it draw ;)

  18. DW Says:

@Joe. yes the world has moved on. It’s not Windows Mobile any more. It’s a new OS called Windows Phone. You should go check it out. It’s only WP7 and Android left in this contest because the execreable iOS got booted to the kerb right at the start…..

  19. DW Says:

Apologies. Forgot to say there’s a Blackberry in there too.

  20. hey hey Joe Says:

hey Joe, in your opinion, what difference do smartphone owners (ordinary people) see in Windows Mobile, Android, Huroid, Figoid etc… ?

  21. Joe Says:

I have tried WP7 and it really sucked… wonder its not selling. WP/WinMo are the *SAME*, they both share the CE kernel (thats why they don’t support dual cpu etc), so to say it is completely rewritten is a lie.

IAs I said I tried it but wayyyyyyyyyyyy too many shortcomings if you use your phone for more than texts or calls.

Off the top of my head (I’m sure theres more)

No Multitasking eg dl nokia map – leave screen dl stops, facepalm!, poor battery life, No Flash support, only fking BING !!!!!!, Cant send contact over bluetooth, can’t get MMS when on wifi and 3g turned off !wtf!, can’t to connect to a VPN, can’t attach TWO office docs to my emails, no device encryption, no ability to use self signed certs, can’t attach pdfs to emails, missing apps like Skype, instagram, dropbox etc, can’t show call duration for calls in history, no FULL backup facility, no copy and paste between apps, can’t record in 1080 video, can’t set custom ringtones for sms, emails etc, can’t sync with outlook on my PC, no OTA updates, Crap single core cpus, low RAM, no Micro SD expansion.

Not to mention there are still quite a few bugs to be ironed out. Nokia for example was supposed to have the best QA in the business, but countless people are having problems with calls cutting off, and not being able to hang up a call on the Lumia 710, I would love to know just how extensive their testing really is like WP7 “multitasking” is a total joke, Some games and apps simply freeze when you move away from them. others, like Facebook, restart every time you switch back to them which is annoying and Have you noticed that there are lots of news missing on People Hub as compared to the official app because of your friends’ security settings? What’s the use of integration when one cannot even read the full updates like on a official app?

  22. Fahmi Says:

    @Joe: U r really funny!
@DW: So what if there is blackberry? So…? And i was paranoid at first when i saw dat apple was sunk! However, when i tink twice, it seems so fake to me and i believe that apple is the ‘Goddest’ of all devices… and im the one hu support APPLE!

  23. Mickey Says:

Lumia 900 and Titan II in the finals. Lumia will probably win just becouse its a Nokia. ;)

  24. Keith Says:

Half of your gripe list has been rectified with Mango and the rest will be addressed soon enough. Just about all the apps you mention are actually in the marketplace. There are few bugs but far less than any Android phone. You obviously do not have any credibility but if you did you would have lost it all by stating that Windows Mobile and Windows Phone are the same. Actually Windows Mobile has a lot more in common with Android (including some good things that haven’t made it to WP just yet) than it does with Windows Phone. Windows Phone a breath of fresh air in a sea of devices that all have the same dated Apple design that everyone else is following.

  25. edgar Says:

the windows phone fan boys,, voted loud and cleaR..WINDOWPHONE OPERATING SYSTEM might be young, but its the most consistent out there.. the deep integration of this operating system is the best out there.. simple, intiutive and simply fast,, its sad that people think that windows mobile and windowsphone are the same,, this is due to the lack of carrier support like verizon,sprint.. people awareness of the operating system is the most important thing for msft..windowsphone will smoked any phones out there..iphones is is just messy…
dont be surprise why windowsphones are ahead of the pack.. there is a reason why this phones are voted on.. you all haters should check why windowsphone owners are crazy about their mobile devices.. instead of talking shit here..

  26. DW Says:

@Fahmi. You need to read the post directly above that one. I said that Android and WP7 were the only ones still in, then realised that Blackberry were also in there. I was correcting my own previous post.
