Smartphone Madness 2012 Game 5: Nokia Lumia 900 vs. Motorola Droid RAZR Maxx. Voting Ends 3/17 at 9 a.m. EST

Smartphone Madness Game 5Who needs college basketball when there are smartphones to root (for)? Yesterday we watched the Pantech Burst go down against the Editors’ Choice-winning Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Today we settle in for an epic battle between Windows Phone and Android as the Nokia Lumia 900 goes up against the Motorola Droid RAZR Maxx. Determining the winner is up to you, and your votes (see the poll below).

Nokia Lumia 900 Smartphone MadnessThe Nokia Lumia 900 is a wildcard, in that its an unknown. Expected to arrive on AT&T’s 4G LTE network, we have high hopes for Nokia’s new flagship Windows Phone. We like it so much we named it the best smartphone of CES 2012. Although the 4.3-inch screen is somewhat large, it’s more than manageable. Around back of this solid unibody design(available in cyan and black) is an 8-MP camera with Carl Zeiss optics, which fired shots quickly. Its secret weapon might just be the bundled free Nokia Drive GPS app.

Motorola Droid RAZR Maxx Smartphone MadnessOn the other end of the court is the longest-lasting smartphone around. The Motorola Droid RAZR Maxx certainly has the endurance to go the distance, but does it have the support of the crowd? Verizon Wireless’s huge user base and its blazing-fast 4G LTE network doesn’t hurt. Neither does the Super AMOLED display, dual-core processor and 8-MP camera. But this Android handset’s real strength is in the endurance. On our tests, thanks to its 3,300 mAh battery, the Maxx lasted an epic 8 hours and 25 minutes, which is a couple hours longer than even its nearest competitor.

Voting will remain open until 9 a.m. EST on Saturday, March 17, so don’t wait to chime in. Then, check back on Monday, March 19 at 10 a.m. EST to vote in Game 6 when the Motorola Droid 4 takes on the LG Optimus 4X HD.

  1. i am not a fanboi Says:

The votes on this site are mostly driven by people coming from useless sites like wmpoweruser . Talking about fanbois ..
    Eh @wmpoweruser ?

  2. gary Says:

After the Lumia 710 results, another dodgy poll :D

Combined Lumia sales are 1% of the market but in these two polls they are winning by 10:1

    A bit too obvious ????

In the real world were it counts, Nokia is nowhere……………………..

  3. Francis Thibault Says:

    Razr is soooooooo loosing

  4. Some Moto people are bitter eh? Says:

Why isn’t it legit for Windows Phone fans to vote for their fave handsets?

  5. mike Says:

Android? Really? The poor man’s iOS. It’s the OS that lives in the monster truck trailer down by the river.

  6. i told u Says:

nope Im not from wmpower user (im not a fanboy) I actually use a Hp Pre 3, but sorry to say now android device can compete with a windows phone period. Hopefully this android nonsense comes to a close when oracles lawsuit kicks off. they already pay microsoft everything they own lol. Your the fanboy so get used to loosing boy.

  7. dave Says:

Yes but the Nokia Lumia 710 has the highest positive feedback rating by customers since launch

  8. peter Says:

@gary why the results were dodgy? The lumia 710 is a extremely capable device at around 200-250, is that not worthy of a vote for an excellent mobile. The note is not my thing, it’s just massive to be any practical as a mobile.

  9. Iain Says:

Actually nokia is very much from nowhere when it comes to worldwide distribution from the phones, maybe you should say android is going nowhere outside of the usa. and the real world is actually the real world not dreamland usa.

  10. Dan Says:

Is that the Android that spys on your email, your pictures, your web search, your youtube and now wants to replace your ringtones with google ads? Screw google, I’ll pick Nokia 900!!! When do you vote?

  11. rational commenter Says:

How good a phone is isn’t measured by it’s sales numbers, people who are voting obviously know this. Where the Nokia phones are available, they are a huge success.

  12. duk3togo Says:

Hmmm…nokia is still the largest manufacturer of mobile phones. Also the fact that they sold over 2 million phones in two months is amazing. If it was all fanbios you wouldn’t have the 100 who voted for the maxx.

  13. PoohGQ Says:

@i am not a fanboi & gary.. It just seems like a lot of people have trust in Nokia rather than Motorola. Let’s not just look at Nokia’s reputation in the US, Nokia is still number one in many places around the world compared to your assumptions..

  14. Iain Says:

yes in 2011 Nokia was the number one phone maker worldwide, google and android have a long way to go before reaching what Nokia has accomplished, I have a lumia 800 and is one of the best phones I have ever had, also have a 710 good phone also, Nokia has blown away all the wp7 phones in such a short time and it continuing to take back marketshare from android and apple wherever it is selling, way to go Nokia.

  15. Anirban Says:

It should be Razr vs iPhone 5. Nokias have made their own grave by adopting Windows, WebOS would have been the OS to adopt

  16. johnnyvegas Says:

“Nokia is still number one in many places around the world compared to your assumptions..”

I think he was referring to the fact the windows phone is 1.3% of global market share, and lumias supposedly have 50% of the wp7 market, ths lumias global market share = 0.7%

I agree ith the guy who said taffic is driven here by fanbois from silly sites like wmpoweruser etc

“Also the fact that they sold over 2 million phones in two months is amazing”

Android activate more than that in 3 days, how amazing do you find that ?

once the s3 and iphone 5 hit the streets, wp share will drop again :D

  17. thelastholdout Says:

Ben the PC Guy is also largely responsible for the fanbois flooding the site and voting up the Windows Phones. He retweets the contests, where he has about 10,000 followers.

If the Android manufacturers were to retweet this contest we’d see far more accurate results.

  18. Ahmed Says:

I do not have nokia Lumia 900 nor 710. I have Samsung focus with Mango upgrade . This phone is one and half year old and I challange any android phone about the perfomance of this phone. Acutally the operating system is fluid and fast. I have bought iphone 4s for my wife, when I have used it, I told myself what is this ??? really you can not compare any operating system to windows phone 7.5. because of this I will vote for Nokia lumia 900 :)

  19. Joe Says:

I see wmpoweruser, wpcentral etc etc got all their members to head over here to skew the voting

    how unsporting :/

It just skews the results…………………this should be made void tbh

The giveaway is that the 900 is not even released yet………joe public knows nothing about the 900

  20. ben Says:

The reason android users aren’t voting for the razr is because android sucks. Any wp7 phone gives a better user experience. Plus the lumia hardware is just so much more beautiful..

  21. The Doros Says:

Let me get this straight, people that have windows phone that believe it is good are skewing the results because Ben the PC guy is putting it on twitter. Also because wmpoweruser has it posted on their site?

Can’t the same stuff be posted in any other android forum? Or are you too busy rooting your device to make it useable?

  22. J4rrod Says:

Love all the WP haters :D

Funny watching it go through absolutely destroying these jokes they call phones. Android is hilarioiusly bad.

  23. Shiv Says:

Lumia 800 sucks and 900 will also suck! HOW & WHY ? Well, I will compare with other mobiles which are already available in market, whose share Microsoft and Nokia are trying to get a little bit.

3.7′ screen compared to 4.3 ‘ screen size of Samsung S2 or Moto Razr XT 910/ MAXX Series
Screen technology (AMOLED) being used is almost at par but not in terms of density of pixels due to which richness is getting compromised in Lumia series.
Less or almost same battery life compared to its above counterparts. Maxx ofcourse is going to change the rules of the game with its battery life.
No slot for extending storage, big drawback in Lumia
    No front camera
No gyroscope sensor which makes my gaming experience bad while i try to beat my my own scores at bed time….
No Bluetooth, this is a consicous decision because of windows OS on the phone. No comments !
RAM – I say win OS is good so i am happy with 512 MB RAM on a windows mobile unlike a andriod mobile which needs more RAM because its memory hungry and not corporate level, NOT stable and NOT sound like Win 7.5 Mango.
    Water resistant – No
Slim – No, compared to Moto
Strong – No, compared to kevlar finish of Moto and upcoming some wierd alloy like material in Samsung S 3
Finish – I some how did not like the finish, rubbery finish but many others liked it but.

OS: With 7.5 Mango tables have turned, industry is now watching windows mobile OS, Its damn Stable and better than Android. I like Windows OS 7.5 and upcoming 8.0 which will be used in tab. Truly corporate level Mobile and TAB OS.
OS of Windows is turly corporate level with its 365 degree connectivity. Like connectivity to Exchange server, Lync Server, Share point , Office and Cloud. At the same time its also very user friendly which my dad can also use easily

BUT….who are Microsoft and Nokia sh@#$$ng, will they be able to capture any share of of their competitors with this kind of ultra cheap hardware specs inspite of good OS.

Final verdict, hardware of lumia is depressing when i think of existing and upcoming marvels from Samsung, Moto and Apple. Because of such screensize and other vital hardware pieces missing i flush Lumia 800 and 900. At this price, i can get more hardware in Samsung or Moto.
Time to rethink of specs Lumia team !!! Atleast after Lumia 900, please come up with some market standard specs.

Lack of good hardware is forcing me to vote for droid devices like Samsung S 2, upcoming s3 and Moto Razr Series.

Lastly, no comparision between apple and mango ;-) Anyday, Apple is kind of cool, had its share and will continue to have its share irrespective of what ever MS and Nokia do together..

  24. Shiv Says:

ahh, single core processors and camera zoom or mega pixels wise also lumia is less…

  25. Shiv Says:

list goes on..lumia is not capable to act like a hotspot…

  26. lol what Says:

HAHAHA… WOW. Your tournament idea is VERY, VERY BAD.

The Droid Razr Maxx, the smartphone with possibly the best battery life currently on the market, is already out in the very first matchup?

You put iPhone 4S, one of the most popular phones in the world, up against some unreleased Huawei phone? Hmm..

Try putting them all in one big poll instead, geniuses.
