Smartphone Madness 2012 Game 12: Samsung Galaxy Nexus v. HTC Titan II

Smartphone Madness 2012 Game 12: Samsung Galaxy Nexus vs. HTC Titan II

We now know who three of our final four phones in Smartphone Madness 2012 will be. Today, it’s up to you to decide who the third phone will be, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus or the HTC Titan II. Click through to vote for your favorite.

In the first round, the HTC Titan II defeated the Sony Xperia Ion. As we noted, the Titan II is the first Windows Phone with a 16MP camera, and builds upon the legacy of its older brother, the Titan. As we noted in our hands-on with the Titan II at CES 2012, its 4.7-inch Super LCD 800 x 480-pixel display isn’t the highest resolution, but it comes with a fast 1.5-GHz Snapdragon S2 processor. Also, it will ride on AT&T’s high-speed 4G LTE network. The phone is scheduled to be released on AT&T Wireless later this year.

Facing off against the Titan II is Google’s current flagship phone, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, which beat up on the Pantech Burst in the first round.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus has a massive 4.7-inch smartphone, and was the first to wear Android 4.0′s colors, which  is still hard to find on other Android handsets. The Nexus is powered by a 1.2-GHz dual-core TI OMAP processor with 1GB of RAM. The Verizon Wireless 4G LTE data speeds will work in its favor. Plus, the huge screen isn’t just good for visual real estate, it also packs a super sharp 1280 x 720-pixel high-resolution display. As a buzzer beater, the Galaxy Nexus also includes a 5-MP rear-facing camera that can capture 1080p video.

So, which phone do you think is better? Vote now!

Try get an actual picture of the galaxy nexus….

  2. Luke Says:

REALLY?! The BB Bold 9900 won over the freaking HTC One X?!

  3. dave Says:

I haved had issues with my Nexus .. I’m on my third nexus from 3 different stores and they all have some sort of coloration on the screen. First was awful, had banding. Second the whole top half was pale blue against white background.

My third still has blue in the bottom right hand corner but compared to the other two it was bearable. Everyone i know with a nexus has some sort of green, blue, or red coloration somewhere on your screen. Look for it, low light, white background. Once you see it you can’t unsee it.

It might be annoying, but more annoying to me is the backlight bleed present in all LCD phones. Especially given the fact that I use my cell phone as an alarm clock and leave the screen on all night with the display on text only and a black background.

  4. Jeff Says:

How in the world did the Bold 9900 win against the One X? Just… How?

  5. Marco Says:

Is it me or is this competition biased/uninformed?

Bold 9000 beating the One X?

    Lumia 710 beating the Note?

    Huawei beating Apple?

C’mon in any real world polling Apple would’ve won since everyone drinks Apple’s Kool-Aid. And the One X hasn’t even been released yet! No one has a complete idea on how it feels, runs, or how Sense 4 operates.

    This shit is broken.

  6. Chris Says:

GNexus all the way!!! This is the best device I’ve ever owned hands down.

  7. Brad Says:

HTC one X is any day better than the blackberry, come on blackberry is going thru a slow death and they definately do not live up to the expectations of the other OS phones.

  8. Lee Says:

How did the One X lose to blackberry!!!

  9. Chris Says:

The Droid Razr MAXX lost against a Windows Phone? Seriously?

  10. Jeff Says:

That’s crazy Dave…. I’ve had my G-Nex since day one and have never had any issues with it at all. Wouldn’t be surprised if both Samsung phones go head to head….

  11. Travis B Says:

I have had a few smartphones and work on them time to time. I have a GNex and it is an amazing phone! Had it since the day it came out and no problems. Plus most devs are basing most everything on it.

  12. shehippie Says:

I voted the Nexus, but the HTC Rezound blows both out of the water =)

  13. Pieter Says:

WTH!? The fact that in this competition the BB Bold 9900 beat the HTC One X just makes every other result questionable… IMO the top two phones here would have to be the Galaxy S2 versus the HTC One X, in which case the One X is the winner, but that’s not really a fair comparison for obvious reasons…

  14. Derek Says:

The Galaxy Nexus has a 4.65 inch screen, not 4.7.

  15. Brandon Says:

whats important to realize is that the iphone didn’t make it past the first round, thats awesome!

  16. am_me Says:

THE ONE X lose !!!! OMG against a BlackBerry wtf???! Impossible , big fake !xD

  17. Daniel Börresen Says:

I use NoScript and I were AMAZED at how many scripts this site launches. Shame on the web master. Really. Code a better page!

Really. It’s worse than ’90s animated gifs! and blink tags !

  18. boojay Says:

“REALLY?! The BB Bold 9900 won over the freaking HTC One X?!”

That’s how you know this challenge is BS.

  19. ravonrip Says:

How did Lumia 710 defeat Note?? :(

  20. Deltaechoe Says:

Dave, you must have gotten into a bad batch, none of the nexii I have worked with have that discoloration, only one of them had a backlight bleed, but that was an easy fix, must have just be misaligned by whatever initially assembled the piece.

  21. Guido Says:

My Galaxy Nexus has worked flawlessly since release day. While Google may be slow about releasing official updates currently, it still runs immaculate. Rom’d or not. No backlight issues to this point, and I also use it as an alarm clock. And why are the “competitions” on this site so oddly tilted all the time.. seriously a BB beating out the HTC One X?

Just shows the demographic for regular visitors. Out of touch.

  22. Daniel Says:

The nexus should kick the titans ass. Agreeing with Luke about the BB over the One X ?! The galaxy S2 should take the first place.

  23. Muhammad Sazali Shamsudin Says:

I am unsure about those both devices therefore I just vote randomly…

  24. i told u so.com Says:

what a joke any android phone getting more votes the Windows PHone. Fragemented, boring, non innovated, patent stealing, horriable OS 1995 SBP Windows Mobile Shell interface rip off, nonsense. That will prob not be in buisness much longer (hoping Oracle can win this suit and microsoft continue to get paid from there stealing).

  25. John Says:

    @Dave

There is no “backlight bleed” on the galaxy nexus because it is an amoled screen. Almoeld screens do not have backlights and therefore no way to bleed. I think you might have a different phone.

I voted for the HTC Titan II just because I like the OS better but honestly the Galaxy nexus is a much nicer phone with better hardware and screen. I’ve used my friends galaxy nexus and the screen is awesome! It does have the pentile pixel layout but the resolution makes up for it. …and no it did not have any discoloration.

However, I have an android tablet with ICS and I used to have an android phone and after getting my Window Phone I personally just couldn’t see myself going back to Android. I was hoping that ICS would be the game changer I was hoping for and while it is better, it just isn’t enough. Also, being an app developer, the Android API is just a giant pain while .Net with WPF (Windows Phone API) is simply awesome.

  26. jared Says:

Were is the HTC evo 3D??? That would told everything.

  28. Groover1971 Says:

It looks like like it may come down to 2 Samsung Androids vs 2 Nokia Windows Phones (or maybe 3 Windows Phones vs 1 Android). My money is on the Nokia Lumia 900. Wish it came with CDMA.

  29. saik0shinigami Says:

This “challenge” is a joke… you’re telling me that the Nokia Lumia 900′s “Qualcomm Snapdragon APQ8055 single-core ARM processor running at 1.4 GHz [...] 512MB RAM, [...] and a 1830 mAh battery” beat the Razr Maxx’s dual core 1.2 GHz TI OMAP4430, 1 GB RAM, 3300 mAh battery? HAHAHAHAH, This lost all credibility.

Pure specs, Razr Maxx stomps the lumia… Verizon’s network stomps AT&T(what the lumia is on). I think this “challenge” is being trolled by Android haters.

  30. anthony Says:

no weird coloration on my gnex. used a dead pixel app that rotates various colors and i nor any of my friends see any color shifts.

  31. Zeke Says:

Your results are skewed. Look at the phandroid over at Droid-Life directing people to come here and vote against Windows Phone for the craptastic Galaxy Nexus.

    http://www.droid-life.com/2012/03/27/galaxy-nexus-is-getting-stomped-in-the-laptop-mags-smartphone-madness-challenge-lets-change-that/

  32. Ed Says:

How is the EVO 3d not in this bracket???

  33. RyanGadz Says:

HTC One X should have made it further, its a great looking device.

  34. Akshay Says:

how the hell 710 lumia beat galaxy note!! haha!!
finals wud be note vs s2 with samsung galaxy s2 as the winner

  35. Akshay Says:

except s2 all others feel manipulative!!
ascend d or iphone4s either shld be in last 4

  36. yan Says:

he get pay not to use Android….?? sure they will make Nexus fail this round

  37. joe Says:

The Titan is getting kicked to the kerb !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Android FTW !

  38. Anion Says:

I am really sorry but where is Nokia N9 with MeeGo? How can I vote when it is not present?? Please update.

  39. javi Says:

-”We now know who three of our final four phones in Smartphone Madness 2012 will be. Today, it’s up to you to decide who the third phone will be”

    **fourth phone will be**

  40. kretenska pizda Says:

Where is Nokia N9? Afraid it might obliterate all.

  41. Clay Rogers Says:

Wow, this isn’t shady in the least. 9900 over the one x? Huawei anything over the iPhone 4s? 710 over the Note? Is it backwards day or are these spots bought and paid for?

  42. joe Says:

    @zeke

“Your results are skewed. Look at the phandroid over at Droid-Life directing people to come here and vote against Windows Phone for the craptastic Galaxy Nexus. ”

Hmm WMpoweruser/wpcentral etc and Ben the PC guy on twitter (10,000 followers) have been sending voters over here to vote for windows phones for weeks, hell last week they even cheated and got hold of the polldaddy address for upcoming polls that were not officially launched and started voting on them.

That is why the 710 beat the note etc

Whats wrong, don’t like your own medicine ??

  43. Jonas Says:

How can the Nexus win? It’s truely horrible. It feels sluggish and laggish even compared to the SGS2… No wonder WP is winning over the other phones.

  44. Bionicman Says:

No issues here with my GNexus. Its a superb phone that will only get better with updates. never used a WP7 phone so can’t comment on that but don’t be spewing lies about the GNexus.

  45. Slayer33 Says:

So many “non-windows phone” users always bash the single core processors of their phone line up. But the realization here is that windows mobile OS is so efficient compared to Android and iOS that they do not require dual or quad core processors to be just as fast as their competitors..

PPL get caught up saying WPs HW is dated and get caught up with the specs.. its not all about the specs. Its about how the OS is so well designed that they don’t need quad cores and high capacity batteries to be fast.

  46. Slayer33 Says:

Specs are nothing if you don’t have something good to drive them. simple as that.

There’s a reason why Microsoft has launched a worldwide campaign called “Smoked by Windows Phone” with sick prizes if any challengers can actually beat it.

  47. DW Says:

    Joe the hater strikes again
