Slacker Introduces Song Lyrics: Clears Confusion, Breaks Hearts

April 1st, 2009 by Jeffrey L. Wilson

slackerlyrics2There are more than a few April Fool’s Jokes running roughshod through the webbernets today, but there are some news items that are one the up and up, such as Slacker adding lyrics to its streaming music service.

If you’re a Slacker Plus or Slacker Premium subscriber you may have noticed a very subtle change to the way that information is displayed within the “Now Playing” tab. There’s the usual artist and album info links, but now there’s a link entitled “Lyrics.”  Click it, and lyrics provided by LyricFind will display–no more confusion over mumbled Eddie Vedder songs. Lyrics are available across Slacker’s entire spectrum, including the web app, Slacker Portable G2, and BlackBerry app (iPhone is coming soon).

Not only does the new feature display lyrics, but also the actual song writer. My inner glitter glove grew oh so dimmer when I learned that Rod Temperton was the man who actually penned Michael Jackson’s classic  “Rock With You.” ‘Tis one of the drawbacks of living in the information age, I suppose.

Edit: Lyrics not available for every song–yet.
