Skype Video Calling Comes to iPhone, Works with PCs and Macs
December 30th, 2010 by Mark Spoonauer, LAPTOP Editor in Chief
In your face, FaceTime! Skype’s updated app for the iPhone now lets you call iPhone 4 and iPod touch owners over Wi-Fi or 3G. Plus, you can gab with people on their desktops via Skype for Windows and Mac. For now, FaceTime is not available on Windows PCs.The press release mentions iPad support, but this app won’t really be useful until the iPad 2 debuts with a front-facing camera.
Given that video calling represented about 40 percent of Skype-to-Skype minutes during the first six months of 2010, Skype is counting on people sharing on the go. Android users are left out in the cold for now, but we wouldn’ t be surprised to see Skype show some love soon. Google Talk with video is coming soon anyway.
Stay tuned for hands-on impressions. And don’t forget to check out the video below. Apparently, Skype believes its app could inspire impromptu dance-offs around the world.
