Skyfire Readies Major Update to Its Android Smart Phone Browser
March 11th, 2011 by Brian Oliver Bennett, LAPTOP Senior Writer Skyfire, the folks behind the innovative mobile browser app for Apple and Android devices, announced that big improvements are on the way. The company plans to roll out a new 4.0 version of its Android app within the next few weeks.
Already outfitted with advanced features, the current 3.2 version of Skyfire offers tools for playing flash videos, switching between full and mobile browser views, plus tight Facebook integration. Skyfire users can also quickly mark popular pages, “like” pages using Facebook, or search for items through dedicated software buttons.
There’s no word yet on exactly what new abilities will be added to the upcoming SkyFire 4.0 “Pro Edition”. A company spokesperson did say that, “the update will include a revamped pricing model and UI customization.” Though the app is free now and available via the Android Marketplace, this sounds like SkyFire 4.0 will have a price tag attached. Current Android users of Skyfire though, will be able to keep using their app for free. We’ll keep an eye out forĀ developments and hopefully give the browser a try soon.
