Six-Cell Battery Now Available for Dell Mini 10
April 23rd, 2009 by Joanna Stern
On the heels of my post proclaiming that I have had it with 3-cell batteries on netbooks, Dell has made a six-cell battery option available for its Inspiron Mini 10. When we reviewed the Mini 10 last month we were impressed with the build of the netbook and its keyboard, but its endurance was waning with its three-cell battery which only provided 2 hours and 43 minutes of run time. The six cell battery which costs an additional $30 should provide at least double the endurance. We concluded in our Mini 10 review that we would advise consumers to hold off until the six-cell battery was an option. Will you consider buying the Mini 10 now?

Dell have sorted out the interface with the larger Inspiron Mini 9, and coupled with the larger battery it’s a strong competitor to the Asus Eee PC 901/1000 which come with 6-cell batteries as standard.
A good buy!

The Asus 1000HE is still a superior product in terms of battery life (a dense 6-cell gives you 7-8 hours of battery), comfortable trackpad w/traditional buttons, and easily expandable memory. All this for CHEAPER than the Mini 10. Sorry folks, this one is a no brainer.

@Spencer: You’re not impressed by the (optional) 1366×768 screen? I’m not sure if I like the idea or not; less scrolling, but more squinting. The Dell also seems a bit more compact but I’d have to see them together to be sure. I’m not ready to put it in the “no brainer” category.
