Samsung Unveils Android-powered Galaxy Player 50
January 6th, 2011 by Sarah Silbert, LAPTOP Staff Writer
Yesterday, Samsung unveiled its new Galaxy Player 50. A deadringer for a Galaxy S phone, this multimedia player has a 3.2-inch capacitive LCD touchscreen and a 2-megapixel on board. (There’s also an additional speaker on the back.) The Galaxy Player runs Android, and both Wi-Fi and GPS are supported.
As an Android-powered device, the Galaxy Player will offer access to the Android Market for downloading apps. The device will be available with 8GB or 16GB of memory, and users can expand the memory with a microSD card of up to 32GB.
In its bid to compete against Apple devices, Samsung also brought on Flash support. The company is set to release the media player this month in Korea, though no information about a North American release date is available yet. The device is said to retail for $230.
