Samsung Series 9 15-inch First Video Hands On: Ultrabook Size, Big Display

LAS VEGAS — How does a 15-inch display inside a 3.5-pound design sound? That’s exactly what the Samsung Series 9 15-inch delivers. A bigger brother to the Series 9 13-inch, this ultraportable features a bright 300-nit screen with a high 1600 x 900 resolution as well as Core i5 power. All of this inside a slim aluminum body that’s only 0.6 inches thick.

Available in April for $1,499, the Series 9 15-inch costs $100 more than the 13-inch version, but Samsung will include 8GB of RAM (up from 4GB for the 13-inch). Plus, because there’s more room for a beefier battery, this notebook has a rated battery life up to 10 hours.

During our brief hands-on at CES 2012, the keyboard offered slightly better travel than the 13-inch version, and it’s backlit. And the monster size clickpad worked well–but we’ll need more time with the machine to be satisfied.

Rumor has it that Apple will soon release a 15-inch MacBook Air, and we couldn’t think of a better preemptive attack. Check out our hands on video and gallery below.
