Samsung today announced four new smart phones to the Omnia series of Windows Mobile phones, dubbed the Omnia II, OmniaPRO B7610, the OmniaPRO B7320, and the OmniaLITE B7300. Samsung told us that the Omnia II will be coming to Verizon Wireless later this year, while carrier information hasn’t been announced for the other devices. omnia2_12Omnia II The Omnia II is the follow-up to the original GSM Omnia, which landed on Verizon Wireless as a CDMA device last year, and the distant cousin of the European OmniaHD which runs the Symbian operating system instead of Windows Mobile Professional 6.. Samsung claims that the Omnia II sports the largest AMOLED display (3.7 inches) yet on a mobile phone. This touch screen device features Samsung’s TouchWiz 2.0 user interface, an update to the original software that found its way on to a handful of phones on U.S. carriers this year. TouchWiz sits on top of the existing operating system, in this case Windows Mobile Professional 6.1, and makes it easy to open commonly used apps from the desktop. The Omnia II also features support for 480p video recording, can store up to 48GB of content with microSD cards, and supports high-speed uplink packet access (HSUPA) networks as well as high-speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) data networks for both zippy upload and download times. When those networks aren’t available, you can always fall back to Wi-Fi. omnia-pro-b7610_02OmniaPRO B7610 The OmniaPRO B7610 tries to double as a work and play device. It sports a similar sliding QWERTY keyboard to devices like the Impression on AT&T, but adds premium features like a 5MP camera and the Opera 9.5 Web browser. It supports Wi-Fi, has an AMOLED touch screen display, and has GPS capabilities as well. omnia-pro-b7320-_02OmniaPRO B7320 The OmniaPRO B7320 is essentially the Samsung Jack smart phone. It has a candybar form factor, a similar 3MP camera, and Wi-Fi. The OmniaPRO B7320 also supports FM radio, though, and Samsung says it comes preloaded with social-networking apps like Facebook and MySpace, as well as chat accounts including Google Talk, MSN, and Yahoo Chat. omnia-lite_31OmniaLITE B7300 The OmniaLITE B7300 features the TouchWiz 2.0 user interface, a 3D multimedia player, the Opera Browser, GPS, and a 3MP camera. As its name implies, it’s a bit of a watered down Omnia II, but it retains a similar candy-bar touch screen form factor.
