Samsung Announces First eReaders, 6-Inch E6 and 10-Inch E101

samsungereader04aWe had a hunch eReaders would be huge at this year’s CES. Indeed, Samsung just announced its first devices, the E6, a 6-inch tablet, and the E101, a 10-incher. They have a slide-out design that, when closed, bears a curious resemblance to a certain eReader (I’m pretty sure it’s the white plastic that does it).

These readers are both equipped with 802.11g Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and promise to last two weeks on a charge. The readers each come with a stylus. A relic, perhaps, and yet most eReaders don’t let users write on top of the content they’re reading (the enTourage eDGE being one exception).

Funnily, Samsung proudly announced that its launch content partner is none other than Google. In the case of eReaders, that’s not such an impressive thing, as many of these books are titles whose copyrights have expired. I’m interested to see how many New York Times bestsellers make their way onto the device.

The E6 and E101 will cost $399 and $699, respectively, and will be available in early 2010.
