Rumor: New Apple Products to Commemorate Retail Store’s 10th Birthday

Apple’s retail store turns 10 this Thursday, and what’s an Apple decennial celebration without the tech treats?
According to Boy Genius Report, Apple may be commemorating its brick-and-mortar stores’ anniversary by launching a brand new product (or products) this weekend. The exact surprise remains a mystery, but some believe the launch will be new software like Mac OS X 10.7 Lion, a refresh to cloud sync software MobileMe, or an online streaming music locker akin to new services from Amazon and Google.
Tech blog Boy Genius Report received word from clandestine sources about a handful of Apple Store decrees and happenings that point—boldly—toward a new in-store launch. Corporate higher-ups have requested all Apple Stores to schedule a special over-night staff shift that begins late this Saturday and extends into mid-day Sunday. The shift is all-hands-on-deck; not only are sales members to be on duty, but also visual specialists, Apple Geniuses, a business team member, and a store room attendant.
BGR also reports that black curtains are to be draped over store windows during the shift (which puts the kibosh on our late-night sidewalk stalking plan) and that on Sunday May 22nd, all Apple retail stores will have a mandatory staff meeting to brief employees on training materials recently received from Apple’s corporate offices.
Certainly sounds like something is cooking to us. Check back for the big reveal next week.
