This past month offered plenty of news on upcoming or available tablets; Android 3.0 arrived on the Motorola Xoom last week, the iPad 2 fury kicks off tomorrow, the RIM PlayBook has been in and out of the news since last fall, and webOS teased an HP slate last month. All that chatter, yet the words “Microsoft” and “tablet” have yet to leave lips.
Until today. According to Business Insider, Microsoft is readying Windows 8 for a new tablet. The source says that Microsoft has already reached “Milestone 3″ in the company’s OS production process. If plans stay on schedule, the next step in the assembly line could be complete by the end of July.
Business Insider’s source also provided interface details on the potential mobile platform by describing the system as more “Apple-like” in design and approach.
Just to what extent the new Windows platform performs like iOS will be a mystery, but at least rumors of its arrival are reaffirmed by other leaked information. In a series of leaked presentation slides for a Dell event, it was revealed that the manufacturer has plans to release a Windows 8 tablet nicknamed Peju early next year. Looks like even Windows tablets may take a bite out of 2011.
