Round Two, Game 1 of the Android Cup: HTC Droid Incredible vs. Motorola Devour

All right, now that we’re into the second round of the 2010 Android Cup, and separated the wheat from the chaff, we should see some more competitive matchups between these Android phones. First up: The HTC Droid Incredible versus the Motorola Devour.

The first game of the Android Cup, the HTC Droid Incredible creamed the Samsung Behold II by roughly 2,700 votes. Why? because it has a large 3.7-inch 800 x 480 AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, an 8-megapixel camera, a 1-GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, and runs Android 2.1. Out of the box, consumers can tether the phone, and its soft keyboard is one of the better ones we’ve used.  We also like how the Sense user interface lets you “leap” to any one of seven home screens, and the Friend Stream does a good job aggregating all your social networking info.

So what’s not to like? For one, the phone is a relatively pricey $199, and some may find the terraced design on its back to be polarizing. Also, its optical trackpad, while functional, is slightly recessed, making swiping actions a little awkward. Finally, call quality was inconsistent, something unusual for a phone on Verizon’s network.

In the first round, the Motorola Devour beat out the myTouch3G. Didn’t vote in that game? Well, here’s a refresher on the Devour: it  looks like a more stylish update to the old Sidekicks. Its aluminum body may weigh nearly as much as the Droid (5.9 ounces), but its rounded edges give it a softer feel. It has a smallish 3.1 inch (480 x 320) display, a 600-MHz Qualcomm MSM7627 processor, Motorola’s Motoblur user interface, a 3-megapixel camera, and 802.11b/g Wi-Fi.  The slide-out keyboard had a solid action, but, like the Droid, we found it a little awkward to use.

When we reviewed the Devour, it was running Android 1.6–which means no multitouch support, cost $149 (or $99 at Best Buy), although you can get it for as little as a penny off of Amazon.
