RIP White MacBook (2009-2011)

White MacBook, we hardly knew thee.
While the big Apple news today is the refreshed 11- and 13-inch MacBook Airs, as well as Mac OS X Lion, the company also confirmed that it’s killing off the white MacBook. According to Apple, the 11-inch MacBook Air, which also starts at $999, has simply proved more popular than the plastic 13-inch MacBook, so the white MacBook is being shown the door. Did Apple make the right call?
As cool as the 11-inch Air is, on paper the 13-inch MacBook seems like the better everyday notebook. You got a larger screen (albeit with less resolution), more storage space at the base price (250GB vs 64GB for the Air), and a built-in optical drive. On the other hand, the 11-inch Air is a lot more portable, sports a backlit keyboard, and wakes up instantly because it uses flash storage. We’ll leave it up to you: If you had $999 to spend for notebook, which system would you rather have? Will you miss having the white MacBook as an option?

I guess when I upgrade from my current white Macbook it will be to a Windows laptop. I belong to the roughly 20% of the population who are allergic to aluminum, which every Macbook except this one happens to be made of. Poor decision on Apple’s part, it’d be like McDonald’s killing off the big mac because more people order the quarter pounder. I’m surprised, Apple usually plays it smarter than this.

I am going to be a freshman in high school in a couple of weeks and I have spent the entire summer babysitting and having garage sales to earn enough money to buy a new white macbook when school started. I only have 900 dollars and my dad was willing to pay the last bit. Now the only option i have with the the money I have made is the 11 inch Macbook Air, which seems like a great computer but it doesn’t have all the inputs on the side or a CD slot, and I use that on my current laptop everyday.

What a shame.
I was also collecting money for white macbook.
First they change the logo (because it’s gay) Now canceling white macs?
I can honestly say that 70% of mac users would rather buy updated version of white macbook rather than
11″ air, which has the same price.
