Report: RIM Delays BlackBerry 7, Bold 9900 and 9930 Phones

May 5, 2011 03:23 PM EDT by Brian Oliver Bennett, LAPTOP Senior Writer

The world just learned about RIM’s new BlackBerry 7 OS and Bold 9900 class handsets this week. That hasn’t stopped ominous rumors already floating of a significant delay to both the software and the devices expected to run it.

BlackBerry World has barely wound down and Boy Genius Report is already claiming that both the new operating system and the phones meant to first showcase it won’t arrive until mid August. That’s unfortunate since these products are meant to make dramatic news and stave off growing concern about its future. Of course BlackBerry 7, and the Bold 9900/9930 handsets aren’t exactly market disruptive offerings.

So if rumors are true and RIM’s BB7 devices are pushed back, the message that the company is doing just dandy does lose a bit of impact. Still, with a large and captive user base, RIM could surprise all the skeptics. We can’t wait to see how it all turns out.
