Report: ASUS to Introduce “Kal-El” Tegra 3, Atom-Based Tablets in August

Hot on the heels of the seemingly successful release of the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer TF101, it appears as though the company is ready to push out some new tablets. According to Engadget, ASUS is hard at work on two new slates — a quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 tablet (aka Kal-El) and another running on Intels Atom platform.

While the Intel Atom tablet will probably have a strong showing with consumers, all eyes will definitely be on the Tegra 3 model. Featuring the Kal-El quad-core SOC, expect this high-powered tablet to blow all others out the water in terms of graphics. We had a chance to get a detailed look at Kal-El at Mobile World Congress in February and we were blown away by performance. Boasting 5x the power and 3x the graphics speed of the Tegra 2 chip, Tegra 3 even supports 1440p (2500×1600 pixels), though it seems unlikely ASUS will equip its tablet with a 1440p display.

No word on an exact launch date, but if NVIDIA’s shipping schedule is any indication, the new tablets could be making an appearance sometime in August.
