Rebooted Dell XPS Series with Nvidia Graphics, JBL Audio On Sale Today
October 21st, 2010 by Kenneth Butler, LAPTOP Web Producer/Writer It’s been a while since Dell updated its XPS line, the high-performance fleet of multimedia notebooks aimed at A/V-minded consumers. Today the manufacturer intros the newest generation of the notebook family.
Included in the family portrait are 14, 15, and 17-inch XPS machines that are new and improved thanks to souped-up specs like Nvidia switchable graphics, powerful JBL audio, and a hefty focus on HD video and 3D TV-connectivity for 3D gaming or Blu-ray playback.
The smallest of the bunch is the XPS 14 which retails for $899 and packs an Intel Core i5 460M processor, Optimus-enabled NVIDIA Graphics with 1GB of memory, a 500GB 7200RPM hard drive, 4GB of RAM, a 2.0-MP webcam, and JBL audio hardware tweaked with Waves MaxxAudio 3 digital sound processing tech. Quite the internal package for the price. Check out our XPS 14 hands-on for more details and our early thoughts on the system.
The remaining two models, the XPS 15 and 17, begin to retail today for $849 and $949, respectively. Check out our hands on and look out for our full reviews.

they were smart enough to kick that srs virtual BS out …. well. good for DELL!
The Waves stuff for recording studio is SOOOOO expensive – they are known as the best in professional audio.
I would love to get one of those new laptops. JBL and Waves sound like a winning team

It would be great if the 14″ model could be customized w/1600 x 900 resolution, unfortunately it looks like this won’t be the case. To get that kind of resolution you have to get the 15 model. Why won’t more companies offer the 1600 x 900 res. option?

Suggest that ANYONE even thinking of ordering any of the new Dell XPS units do themselves a favor and look into the Dell support forums/ community. There are numerous issues with the units, Dell rushed to take them to market it seems and marketed them in a way that is misleading.
Invida Optimus is NOT operational on these units, there is NO WIDI and no push to TV display. There are serious drawbacks and unfortunately, Dell is pushing them out without an official disclosure on the problems now fully documented by numerous users. I know, I ordered one.
I would like to ask Laptop magazine research these a bit because we were really swayed by your review of the XPS15. Tell me, did the reviewer actually test the graphics card? Did anyone try sharing displays?
Please take a second look………….maybe if enough reviewers start asking questions, Dell steps up to the plate and offers cancellation options, returns, exchanges, etc.
Thank you.

gilgomez, can I ask if this is worth getting compared with ASUS N53JQ? I have to import XPS from U.S. to Asia as our DELL Retailer does not carry the XPS line. Makes me wonder if the XPS is really worth getting if I factor shipping, handling and customs fee.
