Celio Announces Redfly Smart Phone Dock, Software for Windows PCs
January 8th, 2009 by Todd Haselton This morning Celio, the company behind the Redfly CN8, made two new announcements that will allow you to interact with your smart phone in a similar fashion that the Redfly CN8 smart phone companion does, but with your own computer. The new announcements include both Celio’s smart phone terminal software and its smart phone dock proof of concept device.

The software works with Windows XP and Vista, letting you output your phone’s display in an 800 x 480, 800 x 600, or 1024 x 768-pixel resolution. So you can connect it to your computer and use your PC’s mouse and keyboard to type and navigate around your smart phone’s operating system. We love this as an option for editing large Word or Excel documents that may be stored on the phone, but it seems to us that it would still be easier to simply e-mail these files to a PC, edit them, and then e-mail them (or sync via USB) back to the smart phone. However, Celio thinks it will be best used in schools, laboratories, and hotels, where people are likely to keep a majority of their information on their smart phone, and they want to make quick edits on the comfort of their full-size keyboard and mouse.
The proof of concept dock doesn’t have a price yet, but Celio shouldn’t price it too high considering you can edit most documents using a USB cable, Bluetooth connection, or even by e-mailing them to a computer. Still, we’re excited to get a look at the new software and will bring you our thoughts.
Finally, Celio announced a proof of concept piece of software for Android devices. We think it would be really exciting to use a device, like the G1 for example, on our PC. Especially considering its a much smoother and open platform than Windows Mobile.

If you exclude the display resize, you already have free software to do just that and with many more options and features.
The display resize is nice as it allows to benefit from a wide screen, but working on office documents stored on your device can be done by using the file transfer capabilities of remote control software like EveryWAN Remote Support (free personal edition even for commercial use)
You can find it at http://www.sparus-software.com.
