Hey Zach Morris, want to get rid of your old cell phone? ReCellular will collect your old cell phones and recycle them for you.
Just like HP does with ink-cartridges, ReCellular is providing little baggies, some shipping in the same box as new cell phones, so that you can send your old phones off to them. Before they recycle the phones, the company removes all of the data, so you don’t have to worry about your contacts or love messages to Kelly Kapowski being left behind. A company spokesperson at the Greener Gadgets conference on Friday told us that ReCellular can actually re-use about 80-percent of the phones they collect, and fix the ones that are broken. They’re then re-plated, and re-packaged for sale on smaller carriers, or in places like truck-stops where they can be bought for a budget. According to the ReCellular Web site, some are even sent to soldiers overseas so that they can call home. It’s a great way to put your old cell phones to use, without tossing them in the trash bin. It’d be cooler if they had drop-off boxes at big-box retailers, though. Snail mail is such a pain.
